چکیده
Background Lower cortisol concentrations in adulthood were repeatedly associated with more severe childhood maltreatment. Additionally, maltreatment was reported to promote health risk behavior, such as smoking or alcohol consumption, and increase the of mental somatic diseases during adulthood, major depressive disorders obesity. The present study investigated if behavior disease symptoms adults mediate associations between past basal serum concentrations. Methods Data from two independent adult cohorts general population-based Study Health Pomerania (SHIP-TREND-0: N = 3,517; SHIP-START-2: 1,640) used. Childhood assessed via Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ). Cortisol measured single-point samples. physical used mediators. Mediation analyses calculated separately for both cohorts; results integrated meta-analyses. Results In mediator-separated analyses, partly mediated by (BDI-II: β indirect effect -.011, p FDR .017, 21.0% mediated) subjective complaints (somatic complaints: -.010, .005, 19.4% mediated). second step, mediators simultaneously into one mediation model. model replicated effects (whole model: -.014, .001, 27.6% mediated; BDI-II: -.006, .163, 11.4% mediated, -.020, .020, 15.5% Conclusion support hypothesis that long-lasting on stress response system are through self-perceived symptoms. However, no found physically models multiple simultaneous pointed a relevant overlap potential This should be focused future studies.

Pathways linking childhood maltreatment and adult physical health.
OBJECTIVES This study examined whether a self-reported history of childhood maltreatment (physical, emotional, and sexual abuse and physical and emotional neglect) is related to poor adult physical health through health risk behaviors (obesity, substance dependence, and smoking), adverse life events, and psychological distress. METHODS Two hundred and seventy nine (279) women aged 31-54, prim...
متن کاملAssociation between subjective memory complaints and health care utilisation: a three-year follow up
BACKGROUND Subjective memory complaints (SMC) are common among elderly patients and little is know about the association between SMC and health care utilisation. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate health care utilisation during a three-year follow-up among elderly patients consulting their general practitioner and reporting subjective memory complaints (SMC). METHODS This study wa...
متن کاملThe relationship between adult health and childhood maltreatment, as moderated by anger and ethnic background.
Childhood maltreatment, anger, and racial/ethnic background were examined in relation to physical health, psychological well-being, and blood pressure outcomes. This study used data from a diverse sample of African American, Latino, and Caucasian participants (N=198). Results from a series of multiple regressions indicated anger and total childhood maltreatment were robust predictors of poorer ...
متن کاملRelationships between childhood maltreatment, adult health and psychiatric outcomes, and medical utilization.
Childhood maltreatment strongly predicts poor psychiatric and physical health outcomes in adulthood. This overview of the literature shows that individuals who suffer abuse, neglect, or serious family dysfunction as children are more likely to be depressed, to experience other types of psychiatric illness, to have more physical symptoms (both medically explained and unexplained), and to engage ...
متن کاملGenetic and Environmental Overlap Between Childhood Maltreatment and Adult Physical Health.
Past research demonstrates a phenotypic relationship between childhood maltreatment and adult health problems. Explanations of this association usually point to either: (a) a direct causal link, whereby exposure to early stress disrupts biological functioning during sensitive periods of development; or (b) an indirect effect operating through socioeconomic attainment, poor health behaviors, or ...
